Knowing that the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s voyage was quickly approaching, I spent much of my time this week pulling volumes off my bookshelves, immersing myself in any and all stories relating the Edwardian Era. I had done this with the intention of sharing a few of them here and it was no easy feat narrowing it down to only two. The first is a novel by Kate Alcott, “The Dressmaker” and I’ll admit, I haven’t actually started reading it. Well, I’m like 5 pages in. Sigh. Still, if you’re as interested as I am in Titanic and/or women’s studies in the Edwardian Era (No, just me then? Nah. I don’t believe it), it’s a good read. I also wanted to share “Titanic: the Tragedy that Shook the World,” just for the photographs alone. Stunning.
I’ll be spending the anniversary at the movie theatre with my good friend Laura. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll relive our childhood memories of Leo and Kate, and then I’ll most likely trail off into some sort of historical gibberish. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
